ACADEMIC WRITING · APA 7TH EDITION
In-text citations
Connect a borrowed idea to its source using author and year. Write either a narrative citation, Rivera (2024), or a parenthetical citation, (Rivera, 2024). These names and dates illustrate citation structure only.
For two authors, use “and” in the sentence and an ampersand inside parentheses. For three or more authors, use the first surname plus “et al.” from the first citation, unless that would make the source ambiguous.
Add a locator for a direct quotation. Make sure the citation points to the matching reference entry.
