Each column should represent one variable and each row one observation. In this historical practice layout, B3:D3 contain variable names and A5:A9 contain case numbers.

  1. Select column B by clicking its letter.
  2. Drag the boundary between B and C to adjust its width, or double-click it to fit the contents.
  3. Use Home → Wrap Text when a heading needs two lines.

For a new analysis dataset, use one complete header row with no blank rows inside the data. Insert → Table can add filters and structured references. Keep this workbook’s layout unchanged while following the cell-based lessons.
